How do I find and use a NAVLE study group?

Prepared 23 October 2026 · VetQ

Choose a NAVLE study group for its working method rather than its size. The best arrangement for you depends on your exam stage, time zone and willingness to prepare independently. Keep group learning separate from official advice about eligibility and booking.

Find compatible candidates

Ask veterinary school networks, professional contacts and public candidate communities about active groups. Confirm the meeting schedule and whether members are revising similar topics. A large chat can be useful for introductions without being the right place for focused teaching.

Structure the session around decisions

Each member should attempt a case before hearing the group’s answer. Compare the evidence for the best diagnosis or next step and verify disputed points. Rotate facilitation so confidence or seniority does not decide every answer.

Protect independent learning

Finish with individual follow-up tasks and revisit the concept through a changed case. Do not share protected live examination items. If a meeting becomes a resource dump or an anxiety discussion with no teaching, reduce its scope or try a smaller group.

Choose a shared case format

Agree that each discussion will answer four questions: what is being asked, which facts matter, why the preferred option fits and what would make the alternative appropriate. Members should prepare answers independently before the call. Use references to resolve disagreements and record unanswered questions for follow-up. Finish with a changed case so everyone applies the principle alone. This gives the group a clear educational purpose while leaving space for support and accountability. Keep the meeting short enough that independent study still happens. A group that consumes every free hour can reduce the individual retrieval and practice it was meant to support.

Check your understanding

A group spends the whole meeting discussing who found the exam difficult. How could you make the next meeting more useful?

Read the answer and reasoning

Set an agenda with a few legitimate cases, independent answers and reference checking. Reserve a brief check-in for support while giving the main session a concrete learning goal.
