NAVLE application checklist: what should I confirm before applying?
Prepared 23 October 2026 · VetQ
A useful application checklist identifies your route, eligibility, materials, payment and scheduling dependencies. It should help you verify the official instructions, not replace them. Requirements can differ between licensing jurisdictions and educational pathways.
Confirm who handles your application
Identify the organisation responsible for your intended licensing route and approval. ICVA’s US/direct application process distinguishes it from the Canadian NEB route. Follow the applicable official instructions rather than paying through a process simply because another candidate used it.
Check eligibility and documents
List the evidence required for your route, who supplies it and when it must arrive. Use the name shown on the relevant identity documents and application instructions. Where a prior examination or institutional confirmation is required, verify completion rather than assuming your payment establishes eligibility.
Check the window and payment details
Confirm the application period for the intended window and the amount due through your route. Note any accommodation process and required lead time from official guidance. Keep acknowledgements and receipts, but distinguish them from final approval and a scheduling permit.
Finish with a status review
Use four status labels: not started, submitted, awaiting response and confirmed. Apply them to each required item. This prevents an item from being marked complete merely because you began it. Once approved, follow the scheduling instructions and keep the appointment confirmation separately. If a dependency is unresolved near a deadline, contact the responsible organisation rather than assuming an extension. Review the checklist again after any material change in your circumstances or application information. The goal is a traceable set of records, not a ticked list based on memory.
Check your understanding
You paid a fee and received an acknowledgement. What should you check before telling yourself you are fully booked?
Read the answer and reasoning
Check approval, the relevant scheduling permit and a confirmed appointment. Payment, approval and seat booking are separate stages. Your route’s official records determine which stages are complete.
