Which one do I need?

If you qualified outside an accredited US or Canadian school, you usually complete a recognition pathway that includes the BCSE, and then sit the NAVLE for licensure. The exact order depends on your state or province, so check with the ECFVG or NEB and your licensing authority.

How to prepare

Both reward broad knowledge and timed practice. For the BCSE start with what the BCSE is and how to prepare. VetQ currently focuses on the BCSE and lists NAVLE practice as coming soon.

Frequently asked questions

In fixed windows with application deadlines. Three are listed for the 2026 to 2027 cycle: October to November 2026, March 2027 and July to August 2027.
