How many BCSE practice questions should I do each day?

Prepared 23 October 2026 · VetQ

Choose a question target that leaves time to understand the answers. The useful daily total depends on difficulty, your foundation and whether the set is new. Finishing fifty questions with no review can teach less than completing a smaller set carefully.

Measure your real review cost

Time one typical set from the first question to the last correction. Include guessed correct answers in the review. Divide your available study time by that complete workload rather than by the time spent choosing options alone.

Use different targets for different sessions

A foundation session may contain few questions and substantial teaching. A mixed revision session may contain more. A timed rehearsal has another purpose again. Label the session so a lower question count does not automatically look like failure.

Increase volume only when quality holds

Increase gradually if you are retaining explanations and keeping up with delayed review. Reduce the target when the error backlog grows. Do not sacrifice every difficult topic merely to keep the daily counter high.

Design a balanced daily target

Choose a small new-question target, a limited review task and one delayed retrieval task. Try the complete session and note its actual duration. If the new questions consume all the time, reduce their number rather than dropping review every day. If explanations are easy and well understood, increase the target gradually. Keep a different target for a weak subject because learning a new mechanism may take longer than revising a familiar one. At the end of the week, compare retained understanding and backlog size. A useful daily target should support the whole learning cycle instead of rewarding the activity that is easiest to count.

Check your understanding

Twenty questions take 25 minutes to answer and 35 minutes to review. You have two hours. What is a realistic starting plan?

Read the answer and reasoning

One complete set uses an hour. You could complete another or use the remaining hour for older mistakes and foundational reading. Forty new questions is an upper estimate for this example, not a recommended daily requirement.
